Success for All |
What is Success for All (SFA) Success For All (SFA) is a school wide cooperative learning, English Language Arts reading program. The program is delivered each day in a 90 minute block. Students are divided into reading groups based on their reading level, and not their grade level. The program is divided into KinderCorner (Kindergarten), Roots, Wings, and Edge (Cycle 3) Twelve week reading assessments: Students are assessed every 12 weeks to monitor their growth in reading. The assessments are done by the SFA facilitators. The information gathered from these assessments is used in conjunction with teacher feedback to make any necessary changes in reading groups. Our Programs KinderCorner Kindergarten uses the KinderCorner program which is part of the Success for All reading program. KinderCorner is a comprehensive kindergarten program based on research indicating that young children learn best when material is delivered holistically rather than in isolation. Using a thematic approach to learning, KinderCorner addresses all key developmental domains for early learners. Students are immersed in an environment that is rich in language, allowing them to develop their oral language skills, while still maintaining an environment that encourages learning through play and exploration. Reading Roots Program Reading Roots is a ninety-minute comprehensive program that targets the needs of beginning readers. Reading Roots is a research-based beginning-reading program that sets students up for success. It equips them with a strong base for successful reading through systematic phonics instruction supported by decodable stories, as well as instruction in fluency and comprehension. Students are grouped based on their current reading level, and not necessarily their grade level. The Reading Roots Program encompasses early emergent reading through the beginnings of early fluency. Wings Program Reading Wings provides ninety-minute of intensive daily lessons over a period of six days, and targets the needs of students reading at a second- through sixth-grade level who have successfully mastered their decoding skills, but need to develop more sophisticated reading skills. To ensure that students become adept readers the Wings program makes sure to target students’ vocabulary development, reading comprehension, fluency, oral-language development and written expression by providing students many opportunities to work with both narrative and expository text. Students are grouped based on their current reading level, and not their grade level. Edge Program Cycle 3 uses The Reading Edge Middle School program, which is part of the Success for All reading program. This program is geared specifically towards grade 5 and 6 students. It provides ninety minutes of intensive daily instruction, over a 9 day cycle. All cycle 3 students are grouped together according to their reading level, and not their grade level. The Reading Edge maintains the integrity of the Success for All program and all its essential components. All instructional levels of The Reading Edge allow students to progress at their own pace, gaining pride and confidence in their abilities as readers. The books in the Reading Edge program are high interest, and are geared towards the students’ reading level. They target each reading competency through systematic reading instruction, thus better preparing students for high school. Lessons focus on innovation, collaboration and foster critical thinking skills. Homework Homework is assigned each week on Monday and is typically handed in at the end of the week. Homework will vary depending on the student’s grade, however nightly reading is a key component at all the grade levels. |
